Time ignored - oh Fuck store clerks |
So I've spent time ignoring this, not mostly by choice, but somewhat. I figured I'd write a blog in tonight, which I plan on changing this system around a bit. So, I was on Kotaku when a comment greatly annoyed me there. Itwas someone who works in retail who posted about how they enjoyed not letting "underage"(using this for America's sense, as it's not law here) kids get their video games. This always annoyed me because as a young one I knew what was right for me, and what wasn't, even then my mom did too. Like when RE 1 came out, I wasn't allowed to watch anyone in my house hold play the game. That built curiosity and I watched my brother play one day when my dad and mom left. They came home saw him playing, and me watching. I don't really remember what happened, I just remember we broke that rule. I didn't find anything scary with RE, or traumatizing. Infact, I didn't understand what was going on. I'll admitt I didn't understand the concept of zombies untill the third one came out. I just figured they were clawing at your throat/face. So from that day foreward I was allowed to watch people play it, then a month or two later I was allowed to play it, during days only. Now we can fastforeward to when I'm 15 a bit. I was at GameStop about to buy a new copy of The Suffering. I was surprised I managed to find a new copy of the game. I accidently found it, because I walked 4 miles off target and needed a breather. So, I go back two days later with my mom. She was in the car so as I prompted her to get out the lady read the ESRB content of the game. My mom quit caring what I played around 12 or so. If she ever thought a game to violent she'd express some ammount of concern, I'd express a rebuttle and a few days later I beat the game and wa sback to Crash, Spyro, or Snow Board Kids. So, as she stood there getting the ESRB read to, and the woman emphasizing Drugs and Violence. I lied to my mom, big time, when she asked me about that. To the drugs I said,"Yeah, the man does tons of them. Like crack, coke, meth, weed, LSD, and many more!" for violence I replied,"Yeah, there's tons of rape! I MEAN TONS!" my mom then buys the game after the woman wont shut up about how the game is unsuitable for someone who's not 17! At this point she didn't know my age. I replied,"I just turned 15 there's not much difference in two years." She interupts with something so I interupt her with,"Fine, say my mom doesn't buy me this. I'll just go home, emulate some games, and steal porn." the woman looks at me with defeat, I hand her the cash, and my mom didn't care one bit I a) Got me a 17 rated game (OH NOES) and b) looked at porn. The funny part was a little while before I went to buy the Warriors at Best Buy. I handed the man the cash, the man asked no questions. My mom was not interupted in her order, nor I mine. As an FYI, she was two people ahead of me. I really wish stores would be like that when someone looks atleast 15+. What's worse is I was once carded for a TEEN rated game. I never went back to that GameStop. Now let us fastforward to when I was 17. I go to buy Dead Rising: Drop Till You Chop. I get carded, have to get my mom (she had been putting off getting me a state ID for a year now). As they read the box to her and I hand them the money, this little kid behind me is buying it on the 360. They're talking about it with his mom. I figured," OH probabally explaining the differences between the two (as he went in looking fo rthe Wiiversion when he didn't own a Wii) and what's in the game." as I put more focus towards that conversation, I hear that they're egging her on to buy her son the game, while they told my mom to not buy me the game. They're telling her it's a good game for kids, and all this. That he'll love it, and blah blah blah. As my mom and I walk out, we both commented on that. How they told two different stories to the same picture. If anything it should've been reversed as A I didn't look 10 and the 360 version is worse then the Wii version. Seriously, this ESRB shit is more hassle then it's worth when you're older. What I like is how I'm now a "regular" at a gamestop that if 4 employee's see me they know I'm 18 and I'm no longer carded. Yay for being ditched at gamestop for hours!
